My dear friends and family, I hope you are doing well!
My name is Paul Kim as many of you already know and I am a mechanical engineering student at the University of Central Florida.
Whether we haven’t spoken in a considerable amount of time or I speak to you on a daily basis, I want to tell you of a great opportunity that I am honored to be a part of this summer. My church, called Harvest, is taking part in obeying the call of Jesus Christ to, “make disciples of all nations” this summer in the Dominican Republic (DR).
The DR is a nation of a mostly young generation that are plagued with poor living conditions, rampant sex trafficking, and broken families with most children not knowing who their fathers are.
In light of that, our church is sending a team of 10 of our own to the DR from June 23rd – July 2nd and while we are there, we will be supporting a local church called Canaan Church to minister and love on the locals in any way that we can. This means that we will be serving through physical work such as manual labor, construction, and structural upkeep. While this will help meet physical needs, spiritual needs are also important to us and the way we will meet those needs are through children’s outreaches, evangelizing to those in the area, holding revival meetings to teach what the Bible says, and telling and showing others the love of Jesus Christ through acts of service. Whether it’s being there to listen to a grandmother speak about the hardships of her life or help to repair a tin roof house, all these things hold one thing in common – Matthew 22:39 – “…Love your neighbor as yourself.”
To many, this might seem strange, but I truly do believe that Jesus loved us so that we could love him and others ultimately for His glory and for our satisfaction in him. Malachi 1:11 states that, “God’s name will be great among the nations” and we want to see that happen in the DR!
In order to go to DR, I need people to go with me and that is what this letter is – an invitation to partner with this wonderful ministry through prayer and finances. First and foremost, prayer is the number one thing that I am asking for. It is said that when man works, man does the work; when man prays, God does the work. I really believe this to be true! If I wanted to do a “man” sized work, I wouldn’t be asking for prayer, but I truly do want a God sized work to be done in the hearts of the people of DR because only he can truly satisfy! Some things to pray for would be that the hearts of the people would be open, for safety, team unity, for many opportunities to share the love of Christ, and that people would choose to put their trust in Jesus for their eternal salvation.
On the other side of the same coin, our team needs financial backing to be able to go. In the Bible, missionaries had prayer and financial support from partners so that they would be able to focus on the task at hand. I ask the same of you as well; would you consider praying with me and/or supporting me financially? The total cost of the trip is $800 and will cover travel, lodging, and food. If you choose to pray/give to our trip, you can use our church’s website at right here and follow the prompting to let me know you are praying or giving. Alternatively, you can make checks out to “Harvest” with my “name” and “DR missions” in the memo line and send it to

Romans 10:14-15 states, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
I know that this summer missions trip to DR is going to be a great and blessing experience; hopefully, you can be a part of this as well!
Allow me to end this letter with a quote from C.S. Lewis, a Christian and famous author.
“The Christian says, 'Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing. If that is so, I must take care, on the one hand, never to despise, or to be unthankful for, these earthly blessings, and on the other, never to mistake them for the something else of which they are only a kind of copy, or echo, or mirage. I must keep alive in myself the desire for my true country, which I shall not find till after death; I must never let it get snowed under or turned aside; I must make it the main object of life to press on to that country and to help others to do the same.”
Thank you so much in advance for your partnership and for reading this letter. I pray that this letter truly does find you well. If you ever want to ask me questions pertaining to this trip or want to catch up, please feel free to contact me.
