MIN IS GOING TO THE DOMINCAN REPUBLIC

Min is going to the Dominican Republic! You can come too - read to find out how!

Dear Friends:

How are you? I hope this letter finds you at a time of peace and happiness.

My name is Min and currently, I am working as a Marketing and Communications Specialist for a health care technology solutions company, AssistRx. This summer, I will be going on missions with my church, Harvest.

As you may know, I teach Sunday School for 8th-9th grade students. I started this four years ago and it’s been such a joyful ministry to be a part of. Our church allows teachers to stay with their students for two year cycles. I love this model, especially with 8th and 9th graders, because I get to see each student grow, transition, and transform—physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually. More importantly, I get to build a meaningful relationship with them.

I’ve had two cycles of students. In my first cycle, I had four young men. In my current second cycle, I have two young men and three young women. Last year, my first cycle of students all went to the Dominican Republic together! Watching them serve and prepare for the trip, then go together was such a blessing…but I felt like I missed out! I wanted to serve alongside them and see God raising up these young men as true brothers in Christ. Luckily, God’s gracious and they want to go together again this year. What makes this even better is that in my current class cycle, three students have committed a couple weeks of their summer break to go.

I was not all this excited when our church first announced the dates for missions. I knew if I went, I would go to DR even though most of my peers would go to Ecuador.  I also knew if I went, I would be swarmed by thousands of children. Thinking about managing these children to finish their VBS activities, sweating, running around, singing and speaking with the loudest voice possible to get their attention so they can hear God’s word…just thinking about it…I get tired. Plus, showering is so important. I don’t mind sweating and being dirty, but I must shower and this is not guaranteed. (Please pray for rain every day!) The comforts of AC, running water showers, and saved energy sounds delightful. Furthermore, I had planned to take my graduate admissions test for business school in mid-June.

Jokingly, I told a sister that I would go if seven of my students went.  A few days prior to the deadline, while I was running on the treadmill, the song “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” played on my iPod. Recently, I’ve used running to worship and pray. As I prayed to discern if I should go to DR, considering these silly reasons, God reminded me of how great He is. My plans, my insecurities, my comforts…”the God of angel armies is always by my side.” I felt a sense of peace and comfort to make a firm decision to go. Then, the day mission applications were due, seven of my students signed up to go. God’s funny! So, I’m going.

I’m going to…

  • serve with my students
  • be led and taught the heart of God as I watch my students use their much more youthful heart to the children and people of DR
  • practically express God over my comfort and my future
  • tell the best story in history—that Jesus died, conquered death, and is now alive and well!

Missions is never done alone. It’s done in partnership. Hand-in-hand; prayer-on-prayer; life-on-life. We need you to join us. When you partner with us, first in prayer and second in finances, you are ministering to the villages of DR. When we report back, you will receive abundantly more and experience the joy of serving Jesus. So, will you partner with us?

Please read the prayer requests below to pray and see how you can financially partner with me to go.

Thank you so much for reading, considering and partnering with me.

With love because of His love,
